Maud Lewis fought through the ravages of both rheumatoid arthritis and extreme poverty to create  folk art that continues to capture the hearts of fans both here at home in Nova Scotia and around the world – works filled with a brightness and joy that stood in stark contrast to the difficult circumstances of her own life.

Maud was, and is, an inspiration to so many.

We are delighted to host this special event that celebrates the life of Maud Lewis, and invite you to join us for this commemorative evening.

Event details

The evening will open up with two incredible guest speakers: Sarah Fillmore, Chief Curator and Deputy Director of Programs, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and Dr. Volodko Bakowsky, Interim Chair, Division of Rheumatology, Dept. of Medicine, QEII Health Sciences Centre and Dalhousie University.

Following the speaking event, Sarah Fillmore will host a Private Tour of the Maud Lewis Exhibit in the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

Refreshments will be served following the tour, and each guest will go home with a commemorative souvenir.

This event is free and open to the public, but those wishing to attend must register in advance by calling (902) 429-7025.  Seating is limited.
