Study Title: Evaluation of the Pain-focused Transformational Leadership Training
Principal Investigator: Dr. Duygu Biricik Gulseren, Assistant Professor
Host Institution of Research: York University
Purpose of Study: The current study offers a pain-focused transformational leadership training program for leaders who have employees with chronic pain. The goals of this training program are to provide basic pain literacy to leaders and increase their knowledge, skills, and confidence in addressing the problem of chronic pain in the workplace. This research also aims to improve the chronic pain outcomes of employees such as pain disability rates, days lost due to pain, and pain severity.
Eligibility Criteria: We are seeking US and Canada-based employees with chronic pain and their leaders (e.g., managers, supervisors). You can participate in the study if you are suffering from chronic pain and are actively working (not on disability leave). We are only seeking employee-leader couples; therefore, both parties should agree to participate to be eligible.
Participation Details: Leaders are asked to participate in a pain-focused transformational leadership training program. Both leaders and employees will also be asked to participate in three surveys to answer a few closed-ended questions. The surveys will take place prior to the training, after attending the training program, and in a follow-up study. The training program is an hour long and each survey should take about 15-20 minutes to complete. Please note that participation is completely voluntary.
